Crocheting Hats for Preemies

In the process of searching for patterns for preemies, I found this site. It gives information regarding sizing for hats for babies from 1-6lbs. There is also a pattern included for a baby that is 5-6lbs. I am sure you could adjust this for smaller babies by changing hook size and a few less rows.

This is a phenomenal resource!  I have made loads of hats, but was never really sure what size baby they would fit.  Hopefully this will help me make a good mix of hats for all different size munchkins.

NEW ADDRESS

I have finally gotten the new address of Rosie's Cozies. I switched from USPS to UPS. This means that every time I have a new package I will be notified, so I don't have to randomly drop in with two kids to see if something has been sent. Also, the UPS store is closer to my house, which makes it a quick run inside at any time of day (I have 24 hour access) to pick up hats! The new address is:

Rosie's Cozies
6026 Kalamazoo Ave SE #119
Kentwood, MI 49508

Currently, I want to start searching for more free patterns of hats for people to make...both crochet and knit. If you have any good patterns you use please send them to me so I can post the link. Can't wait to start collecting more hats!

Stories

I have been so touched by Rosie's Cozies and the stories I get the privilege of hearing from mothers with babies in the NICU. One woman in my MOPS group actually had a couple hats for her son who was born too early and spent time at Helen Devos. I hadn't even thought that she might have had some hats until she mentioned it to me at one of our meetings. I felt so proud of this project.

The other day I opened my email and received this:

"My main reason for asking you about Rosie's Cozies was because I would like to thank you. My son was born at DeVos in January, born at just 23 weeks gestation. He weighed 1 ln 7 oz. The nurses at NICU have given him hats that were donated by you. Thank you so much for thinking of the parents with children in NICU. While I crochet also, I have seen other moms find these hats in their baby's bins and get so excited with recieving such a cute hat for their baby. You really touch people by what you have started and I can speak for many moms when I say we have been grateful.

My son is on his 90th day in NICU, and is 5 lbs today. Thanks again!"

Doesn't that just make you smile from ear to ear? Thank you so much for being a part of this family's story and for bringing joy to them during a rough time. I have asked this mother to send a picture of her little guy wearing one of our hats, so hopefully we can post that soon.

On another note, this week I am getting the UPS Box, so more hats can be sent! I keep neglecting this and I feel awful. Many have asked me for the new address, and this week it will be taken care of and posted. This project is too important.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. (and let's band together to keep praying for this sweet boy still in the NICU)
