Shell Stitch Beanie Video Tutorial

I have the best fans. Greatest. When I mentioned needing a video to help explain my shell stitch beanie pattern Laura Muzinic from Midnight Stitches volunteered to help me out. How could I refuse??

Laura has so graciously recorded herself making my shell stitch beanie and explaining my pattern fabulously! Hopefully, this video helps clear up some confusion that some are having with the pattern. Please check out the video below if you are running into some problems.

Oh, and please head to Laura's Facebook page and give her some love and check out her Etsy shop! She wins fan of the year in my book!

  1. Very nice! You make the cutest baby hats! I need the acquire the skill of making videos for my projects, too. There must be a video somewhere of how to do that, right?;->

  2. This is great. I'm working on adding more to my store. I'm also excited to donate the samples to my local NICU. Yay! Xoxo

  5. UGH this will be my very first crochet... I am lost how did you do the middle circle? Help

  6. How cute are these to make. I have hooked over 30 this weekend and I love them, all for charity - Fish and Chip Babies Africa.

Thanks for being so talented and kind in sharing this pattern and tutorial.

  7. yes this is clear and was from pattern but it doesn't help with where placement of the first shell goes

  8. Hi, why is it when I did a sample of this pattern, and also the person doing the video, the results were different than yours? Your shell division (at the chain 1) makes a definite crease-like division when looking at the completed beanie picture. What did "you" do differently than the person on the video, and me? Is it due to the hat being on a child's head stretching the sts more, producing the different look, or a different size hook? I wanted this adorable pattern JUST for the interesting effect of the shell division, which does not happen on the video & when "I" stitch it up. (And it's a very simple pattern, not complicated, & I've crocheted since I was 7 yrs old, 59 years ago.) Please advise! It's a very cute pattern, and I have a new grand daughter coming in August! Thanks, stumped and sleepless in Seattle!
