Free Time?

I want to apologize for being so absent lately. I know, I know....I just had a baby. However, lately I post pictures of babies, rather than my recent projects. I leave Facebook statuses about motherhood, not crocheting. I know this is my life (and I really honestly love it), but I do miss sitting down at night with a skein yarn, a crochet hook in hand and whipping out some projects.

Yes, I have fit some crochet in here and there, but not to the extent I had. I miss it. I know that my current role as mother of two is much more important and demanding than that of crocheter and I gladly take on the new responsibilities, however crocheting is also part of my identity. Crocheting is my hobby. My passion too.

So, those of you out there who know how to fit it in amidst the poopy diapers, playing with puzzles, wiping noses, rocking a sleeping newborn, episodes of Wonder Pets, and laughing at the conversations of a toddler PLEASE give me the secret.

In the meantime, I'll keep loving on these crazy girls of mine!

  1. Balancing kids, house and craft isn't easy. For me I hook at night when my little cherubs are in bed. Sometimes in the afternoon when (if) they nap, but I try to keep that for scrapbooking so I can sit and hook while Brian sits with me and we watch tv.

  2. It's hard at first with a newborn and toddler, but it does get better as the newborn gets older and can play more and entertain them self, and sleep more consistently. Trust me, this time goes fast and then you will have way more opportunities to craft. I have a 4 year old and twin 18 month olds. I didn't get much crafting done until they and I got better sleep and less feedings. I know it's hard when you have no me time, but you will soon. They grow up fast.

  3. Enjoy the moments now, they will be gone before you know it. It can be hard finding your timing. I think it is a bit different for every family, you have to find what works for you and yours. I am crocheting, sewing and crafting like crazy right now, because I don't expect to get much done for several months after baby gets here. Remember it is a season and they are constantly changing.

  4. While nursing : ). Or, you can finish up feeding/changing baby, pass off to hubby, and steal an hour for yourself. It's hard, but it is important. I "wore" my baby in a front pack or sling when tiny, and I'd work on stuff while she was sleeping. We do go through phases in which the things we enjoy doing have to be put aside for a bit, but not forever!

  5. Crocheting will always be there...your tiny ones will grow up and become independent before you can blink an eye! Maybe you could make a deal with your husband...at a certain time each night, or whenever you choose, he takes on an hour or so of total and complete children cuddling so you can crochet a bit...I know the feeling...it's part of who you are and to not do it is frustrating and sad. You'll find a way...but until then immerse all your love and time into the best creations you have made to date...your babies! :-)

  6. As a mother of four six and under (my youngest is nearing two) I know how crazy it can be trying to balance kids and hobbies. I have so many too. Crocheting has become my favorite lately because I can do it out where the family is and not miss everything. I agree with the previous comments: wear the baby so you get both loves! Steal time for yourself so you don't go crazy, even a little will do a lot. I put my littles down at 8 then usually stay up until about 10. That's enough time to unwind and have some me time. Otherwise they seriously grow up too fast. Don't miss it doing something you can do for the rest of your life!
