I just completed a Christmas hat with a poinsettia flower on it. Once posted on Facebook I had multiple people ask for the pattern. I got the pattern from here.. I don't usually prefer to crochet from using a chart, but this one seemed alright and I figured it out quickly. Either way, I felt it might help to write it out, so here it is:
Hook Size: H
Yarn: worsted
Flower Petals--make 6
Chain 7
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and across (6sc)
Row 2: Turn, chain 1, sc in each stitch across (6sc)
Row 3-5: repeat row 2
Row 6: Turn, chain 1, sc, dec, dec, sc (4sc)
Row 7: Turn, chain 1, dec, dec (2sc)
Row 8: Turn, chain 1, dec (1sc). Fasten off.
Weave a piece of yarn through the bottom of the bottoms and pull tight to pull them into a circle and flower shape.
Middle of Flower:
Chain 2
Round 1: 6sc in first chain...do not join
Round 2: 1sc in each stitch around
Round 3: 1 sc in each stitch around
Fasten off. Sew to middle of flower
Leaves--make 2:
Chain 7
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and across (6sc)
Row 2: Turn, chain 1, sc in each stitch across (6sc)
Row 3-8: repeat row 2
Row 9: Turn, chain 1, sc, dec, dec, sc (4sc)
Row 10: Turn, chain 1, dec, dec (2sc)
Row 11: Turn, chain 1, dec (1sc). Fasten off.
Sew leaves to back of flower.
Voila!
